Ukraine's President Appoints Former Deputy Chief of Staff as Ambassador to Italy.
Diplomatic Reshuffle in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted a series of personnel changes within Ukraine's diplomatic corps. By issuing Decree No. 216/2026, effective March 3, 2026, he dismissed Ihor Brusylo from his role as Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Simultaneously, through Decree No. 217/2026, Zelenskyy appointed Ihor Brusylo as Ukraine's new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Italian Republic. The President's decree stated:
“Appoint Ihor Mykolaiovych Brusylo as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Italian Republic.”
Ihor Brusylo's Professional Background
Ihor Brusylo began his career in the Presidential Administration in 2002. From 2005, he worked in the apparatus of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine's parliament), and starting in 2007, he served as Secretary of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Italy. His appointment as Deputy Head of the President's Office followed on March 17, 2021.
This diplomatic reshuffle marks a significant new chapter in Brusylo's career and underscores the ongoing activity of Ukrainian diplomacy on the international stage. The appointment of a senior official with prior experience in Italy signals the importance Kyiv places on this bilateral relationship. Italy has been a key European partner for Ukraine, particularly in providing political and military support since the onset of the full-scale invasion.
Assigning Brusylo as ambassador to Rome reflects Ukraine's continued focus on strengthening ties with major European nations. Such diplomatic postings are crucial for maintaining international support and advancing Ukrainian interests abroad amid ongoing regional challenges.
