Turkey Offers to Mediate New Talks as Zelenskyy and Erdogan Discuss Ukraine Peace.
Presidents of Ukraine and Turkey Hold Phone Call
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on March 10, 2023. Their discussion covered the situation in the Middle East and the pursuit of peace for Ukraine. The talks also addressed the potential for three-way negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.
President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Turkey for its support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He confirmed Turkey's readiness to host a new round of negotiations.
"I thank President Erdogan for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for Turkey's willingness to play a role in guaranteeing maritime security," Zelenskyy stated.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of expert advice to prevent the war from expanding and to protect lives.
"We are ready to share our expert opinion to prevent the war from expanding and to protect lives, but at the same time, Ukraine needs to strengthen its air defenses, and we count on appropriate support from our partners," the President added.
International Support and Turkey's Role
Following the call, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre issued a statement affirming that achieving peace is possible, highlighting the critical nature of international support for security and stability in the region.
This phone conversation is part of Ukraine's active diplomatic efforts on the international stage, which aim to strengthen alliances and garner support for resolving the conflict. Turkey's position as a key regional partner could play a pivotal role in facilitating dialogue between Ukraine, the US, and Russia.
