Umerov to meet with Zelensky in Paris: what will be key in the negotiations.
According to ТСН: Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov plans to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris on Monday to provide a detailed report on the five-hour negotiations with the U.S.
According to Ukrainian officials who spoke to Axios, these negotiations were 'difficult' and 'tense', but at the same time productive.
The key topic of discussion was the determination of the actual border with Russia as part of a potential peace agreement. This issue, along with the status of Donbas and Ukraine's membership in NATO, remains a major obstacle in the negotiations process.
Although the final text of the peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia has not yet been agreed upon, Kyiv's negotiations with the U.S. on November 30 were a 'step forward'. The American side confirmed its readiness to provide Ukraine with security guarantees.
Paris as a platform for coordination
The meeting of Zelensky and Umerov will take place during the visit of the President of Ukraine to Paris. In the capital of France, Zelensky is also holding talks with President Emmanuel Macron.
An official communiqué about the visit emphasizes that the leaders 'will exchange views on the conditions for a fair and sustainable peace, continuing discussions in Geneva, and the American plan for close coordination with our European partners.'
This meeting in Paris demonstrates the intensification of Ukraine's diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict with Russia. The results of the negotiations may affect the further development of the situation in the region and stability in Europe as a whole. Ukraine is currently placing great hopes on international support and the establishment of clear security guarantees from its Western partners.
