Zelenskyy’s Address in Brussels
According to UATV: Speaking at the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Brussels on June 18, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for enhancing Ukraine’s anti-ballistic missile capabilities to counter the Russian threat. He stressed the need for international support and cooperation with Germany, stating, 'We need an answer to this problem.'
Zelenskyy also highlighted that Ukraine’s interception rate of enemy drones is around 90%. He emphasized the urgency of forming an anti-ballistic coalition that 'must demonstrate full capability.' Addressing the risk of large-scale Russian attacks, the president remarked:
'When we know that Russia is preparing a massive strike on Ukraine, it helps save lives.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Additionally, Zelenskyy referenced the PURL program and Fire Point, a company involved in ballistic missile production. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte attended the meeting, underscoring the importance of joint efforts to bolster Ukraine’s defense. The president urged swift implementation of agreed measures, saying:
'Please, let’s implement these decisions as quickly as possible.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The Role of International Support
The upcoming summit in Ankara was also highlighted as a potential platform for further security coordination. These initiatives aim to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities and provide a robust response to contemporary challenges. For English-speaking audiences, this meeting is part of broader Western efforts to support Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.
Zelenskyy’s remarks mark a critical point in Ukraine’s defense strategy, especially given the persistent Russian threat. International backing, particularly from NATO allies, is vital for enhancing the country’s defensive power. Developing new anti-ballistic technologies and building coalitions could be key to more effectively protecting Ukrainian airspace, underscoring the importance of global security cooperation in the face of escalating military dangers.
