Ukraine Defense Contact Group Holds Strategic Meeting
According to Espreso.tv: On June 18, 2023, the Ukraine Defense Contact Group convened in Brussels under the 'Ramstein' format. The meeting brought together representatives from 15 NATO member states and 12 non-NATO countries. During the session, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged allies to pursue more integrated defense cooperation and discussed how partners could continue supporting Ukraine.
Ahead of the meeting, Ukraine formally requested an additional $20 billion from its international partners. President Zelenskyy highlighted the critical role of initiatives that bolster Ukrainian drone capabilities and domestic arms production.
“Every project that supports Ukrainian drones and our weapons manufacturing, as well as every sanction imposed on Russia for this war—all of this must be intensified,” the Ukrainian leader stated.
Zelenskyy also stressed the need for Ukraine to be acknowledged as a true partner:
“People need to see that when Ukraine stands with you, we must also see that you recognize this.”These remarks reflect Kyiv’s push for stronger international backing amid the ongoing conflict. The Contact Group meeting marked a significant step in shaping strategic defense ties between Ukraine and its global allies.
Growing International Support for Ukraine
The Brussels meeting of the Contact Group underscores a surge in global support for Ukraine as it addresses its military needs. Increased funding and a sharper focus on cutting-edge technologies like drones signal a shift in Ukraine’s defense strategy. Recognizing Ukraine as a vital player in global security could also help solidify the coalition opposing Russian aggression.
