Zelensky on Russian strikes on the day of the Trump-Putin meeting: this is a sign of the Kremlin's true intentions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to the Russian strikes on Ukraine on the day of the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. The head of state noted that this is a true indicator of Russia's desire for peace.
The president made this statement during his evening address on Friday, August 15.
Address by Volodymyr Zelensky
The president emphasized that Russian strikes on Ukrainian civilians indicate that, in fact, the Kremlin is not seeking peace.
'I receive reports from our intelligence, from diplomats about the preparations for the meeting in Alaska, about what Putin is bringing with him. We also receive reports from the regions of Ukraine after the Russian strikes. Sumy — Russian strike on the central market. Dnipropetrovsk — strikes on cities and enterprises. Zaporizhzhia, Kherson region, Donetsk region — deliberate Russian strikes. The war continues. It continues precisely because there is not only no order but also no signals about Moscow's preparations to end this war. On the day of negotiations, they continue to kill. And this says a lot', said Zelensky.
The leader of the country once again emphasized that Ukraine is ready for a just end to the war and hopes for the support of Western partners.
'The day before, we discussed with the United States of America, with the Europeans, what can actually work. Everyone needs an honest end to the war. Ukraine is ready to work as productively as possible to end the war. We hope for a strong position from America. Everything will depend on this – the Russians take into account American strength. It is precisely on strength', added Zelensky.
We remind you, Volodymyr Zelensky planned a meeting with Emmanuel Macron after the summit in Alaska.
Also, earlier Donald Trump commented on territorial concessions by Ukraine in negotiations with Russia.
Zelensky made a statement regarding Russian strikes on Ukraine, indicating that this indicates the Kremlin's lack of desire for peace. The president also emphasized Ukraine's readiness to end the war and hopes for support from Western partners, especially from the United States. An active position from America is important in the context of ending the conflict, since it is precisely on the strength of the United States that the Russians pay great attention.
