Ukraine Targets Tanker Captains in New Sanctions Over Russian Oil Exports.
Sanctions Imposed on Vessel Captains
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted a decision by the National Security and Defense Council to impose sanctions on the captains of vessels exporting Russian oil, as well as on citizens and companies servicing the Russian military-industrial complex. These restrictive measures affect 225 ship captains involved in the export of Russian oil.
In addition, sanctions have been applied against:
- 46 Russian citizens;
- two Iranian citizens;
- 44 Russian companies.
We continue to persuade our partners of the importance of individual sanctions against tanker captains.

Ukraine's Efforts for International Security
These measures form part of Ukraine's broader strategy to counter aggression and bolster international security. By implementing these sanctions, Ukraine underscores its commitment to combating Russian aggression and its global influence. This move to sanction individual ship captains is a targeted strategy aimed at restricting the financing of military operations, thereby increasing pressure on the aggressor state.
It also reflects Ukraine's ongoing push to rally the international community into taking concrete action against violators of international law. These sanctions represent a direct effort to disrupt a key revenue stream for Russia's war effort, which is heavily dependent on energy exports.
