Address by Ukraine's President

According to Novyny.live: In a direct appeal to European Union leaders, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for a firm date to be set for Ukraine's accession to the bloc, proposing the year 2027 as the target. He stressed that the EU must not sidestep this decision, stating:

“I need a date. I am asking for this. Let us not allow future leaders or the next generation to face a situation where Russia blocks Ukraine's EU membership for 50 years.”

Zelenskyy argued that a clear timeline for Ukraine's EU membership is crucial not only for his nation but for the stability and future development of Europe itself. This call comes as Ukraine continues its defense against a full-scale invasion. European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marša Kos, echoed the sentiment, stating that Europe cannot become stronger without Ukraine. However, the process faces hurdles, as several EU member states oppose the concept of granting Ukraine partial membership, which could complicate the integration path.

Prospects for Ukraine's EU Membership

President Zelenskyy's push for a concrete accession date underscores Ukraine's deep commitment to European integration and strengthening its international standing. It also highlights the critical importance of sustained EU support amid the ongoing security challenges posed by Russian aggression. A clear membership perspective could serve as a powerful catalyst for accelerating internal reforms and fortifying Ukraine's democratic institutions, aligning the country more closely with European standards.
