G7 Summit in Évian: Solidarity with Ukraine Takes Center Stage

According to UATV: Held from June 15 to 17, 2023, in Évian, France, the G7 summit placed Russia’s war against Ukraine at the forefront of discussions. During the event, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump on June 16. Zelensky emphasized that all G7 nations stand united in backing Ukraine, stating:

“In my view, this is a very significant signal that all G7 countries fully support Ukraine”

The United Kingdom announced new sanctions targeting Russia and signed a two-year nuclear cooperation agreement with Ukraine. Meanwhile, Canada imposed a fresh sanctions package covering over 160 entities linked to Russia’s shadow fleet. The UK also enacted an embargo on several vessels transporting Russian liquefied natural gas.

Ramping Up Pressure on Russia and Western Unity

Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the urgent need to intensify pressure on Russia, remarking:

“Putin does not want to end this, but we must force him to”

During their meeting, Donald Trump underscored the importance of reaching a deal, noting that “Russia must make an agreement. It has lost a huge number of people, just like Ukraine.” The G7 summit showcased the unwavering unity of Western nations in supporting Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.
