Black Sea Earthquakes

According to Novyny.live: A 3.6 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Black Sea near Crimea on February 10. Its epicenter was located near Kerch at a depth of 14 kilometers, posing no threat to people or infrastructure. This was the second tremor in the Black Sea within 24 hours, following a 4.8 magnitude quake recorded near Novorossiysk in the early hours of the same day. The Black Sea region, while not as seismically active as some areas, does experience periodic tremors due to complex tectonic interactions.

The February 10 quake, which struck at 06:45 Kyiv time, had its epicenter in the sea near Kerch with a focal depth of about 14 km. Meanwhile, the earlier tremor near Novorossiysk had its epicenter approximately 35 km northwest of the city, with a shallower focus of around 10 km.

Seismic Activity in the Region

Earlier in February, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake was already recorded in Crimea, its epicenter 78 km west-northwest of Kerch at a depth of 10 km. It is also worth noting that seismic activity from the Vrancea zone in Romania, a known source of tremors, has been felt near the Odesa region. The Vrancea zone is one of Europe's most active seismic areas, capable of producing powerful earthquakes felt across the region.

The recent earthquakes in the Black Sea, particularly near Crimea and Novorossiysk, highlight ongoing seismic activity in this area. While these specific events did not pose a danger to the population, such natural phenomena can cause concern among local residents and tourists. Continued monitoring of seismic activity remains important for safety in this part of the world.
