Venezuela Earthquakes: Nearly 3,000 Confirmed Dead, Government Reports.
Venezuela Earthquake Casualties
According to Espreso.tv: On June 24, a series of powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela. According to government sources, as of July 4, the death toll has reached 2,954, with 16,592 people injured. However, the final number of fatalities could exceed 10,000 based on projections from the U.S. Geological Survey, which also warns that the casualty count may continue to rise.
Humanitarian Catastrophe
Meanwhile, opposition groups in the country report that over 32,000 individuals are either missing or their fate remains unknown. This raises serious concerns about the scale of the humanitarian crisis in the region, which was devastated by two major quakes measuring 7.1 and 7.5 in magnitude.
The situation underscores the severe challenges facing Venezuela’s government, already grappling with economic and political instability. The lack of effective disaster response mechanisms threatens to deepen the humanitarian emergency triggered by the earthquakes. The growing number of missing persons and the uncertainty surrounding their fate highlight the urgent need for international aid and support to address the aftermath of this catastrophe.
