Changes in car insurance abroad: what awaits Ukrainian drivers from January 1.
Changes in the system of issuing 'Green Card' policies in Ukraine from 2025
Starting from January 1, 2025, there will be significant changes in the system of issuing 'Green Card' policies in Ukraine. This is reported by the information portal Yavp.pl.
According to the new rules, Ukrainian drivers will no longer be able to issue a policy at the border with immediate effect, as was the case before.
Instead, the insurance policy will take effect the next day after it is issued.
This change will significantly affect the planning of trips abroad by car. Now Ukrainian car owners need to take care of international car insurance in advance, as crossing the border without a valid 'Green Card' policy will be impossible, and waiting at the border may take at least a day.
Another important change concerns the format of insurance certificates.
Starting from January 3, 2025, all new 'Green Card' policies will be generated in PDF format through the Centralized Database of the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ukraine (MTIBU).
The countries participating in the 'Green Card' system will be required to accept the electronic version of the policy, which drivers will be able to present on electronic devices when crossing the border.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers introduced a new border crossing system for humanitarian aid drivers.
