Missing in Kursk region. Ukrainian law enforcement begins investigating a new type of case.
Relatives of defenders fighting in Kursk region are reaching out to law enforcement with reports of their loved ones going missing. This information is provided by the article "Chief Commander." Ukrainian law enforcement is facing a new challenge.
According to data from the judicial registry, since mid-August 2024, people have been reporting the disappearance of their loved ones who have lost contact. Eleven criminal cases have been registered under the article "Missing Person."
For example, the mother of a spotter reported that her son went missing while performing combat missions in Kursk region. The situation is similar with other relatives who lost contact with their loved ones in Kursk region.
Cases of missing guides, platoon commanders, and other military personnel are also being reviewed. In particular, the search for two servicemen who were performing combat missions in Kursk region is under investigation.
There are also other registered cases of missing servicemen of various ranks in Kursk region. Currently, law enforcement is sending requests to mobile operators regarding the connections of missing persons with other subscribers and analyzing their SMS messages.
Active combat in Kursk region
Active combat actions have been ongoing in Russia for the second month. Part of Kursk region is controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ukrainian army launched an offensive to prevent the Russians from invading Sumy region and to divert the main enemy forces to Donbas. According to American estimates, Ukraine has sent about 6 thousand soldiers to Kursk region and maintains a reserve of about 4 thousand soldiers to support Sumy region.
