No Taurus and Patriot — why Germany will not share them with Ukraine.
The German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius reiterated that his country will not transfer long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine and complained about the shortage of Patriot systems in Germany. He stated this in an interview with the Financial Times.
According to Pistorius, Germany refuses to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine even after Russia's air attacks and requests from Kyiv. He noted that Germany is gradually realizing the need for rearmament.
Germans will also not provide Ukraine with their Patriot air defense systems, as they have only six complexes left, three of which were handed to Kyiv, two to Poland, and one is used for training. However, negotiations are currently underway regarding the possibility of purchasing Patriot for Ukraine from the USA.
The minister also announced Germany's plans to increase defense spending to 162 billion euros by 2029. He promised that Germany would provide its armed forces with only the most modern products and would be ready to advance payments to arms manufacturers.
Germany is also considering the purchase of thousands of armored personnel carriers and tanks to create new NATO brigades to deter Russia. The German government has already confirmed funding for the procurement of Ukrainian strike drones and missiles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.During an interview with the Financial Times, the German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius stated his country's intentions to support Ukraine in the war against Russia by increasing defense spending and is also considering the possibility of acquiring additional military equipment to create new NATO brigades for a leading strike against aggression.
