The Situation in Occupied Crimea

According to UATV: Ukraine’s defense forces are continuing to strike military sites in occupied Crimea, a strategy that, according to Refat Chubarov, head of the Crimean Tatar Mejlis, is weakening the Russian military group. The peninsula hosts more than 220 military installations that consume large amounts of electricity, causing severe strain on the local power grid.

A critical fuel shortage has also emerged across Crimea, adding to the region’s difficulties. Between July 1 and July 5, units from the Unmanned Systems Forces hit 37 energy nodes in the temporarily occupied territories. This reflects a deliberate campaign to reduce energy availability for Russian military assets. As Chubarov explains,

“Radio-electronic stations, for example, have many engines and motors that run on fuel.”

Economic Fallout

The objective now is to completely cut off power to Russian military facilities, requiring precision strikes on various targets, including critical infrastructure and energy sites. Chubarov adds:

“Accordingly, the task now is to maximally de-energize Russian military facilities.”

This situation is also taking a heavy toll on Crimea’s economy. According to Chubarov, “There is still some business in Crimea, but many jobs are being cut, and entire factories—small, medium, and large—are shutting down.” Given these factors, the atmosphere on the peninsula remains tense, and future actions by Ukraine’s defense forces could significantly shape both the military and economic landscape of the region.

The situation in occupied Crimea continues to be difficult, as strikes on energy infrastructure not only advance Ukraine’s military campaign but also create serious economic hardship for the local population. The loss of jobs and closure of businesses may fuel social unrest, which in turn could affect the region’s overall stability. As a result, the next moves by Ukraine’s defense forces will be critical in determining how events unfold in Crimea.
