Conception of Saint John the Baptist
In the church calendar, September 23 marks the Conception of Saint John the Baptist. This holiday is dedicated to the event when the priest Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth, who were childless and elderly, received the good news from an angel about the birth of a son.
According to the Gospel, during the service, an angel appeared to Zechariah and told him that Elizabeth would conceive and bear a son, who would be named John. Zechariah initially did not believe this news and was punished with muteness until the birth of his son.
