International Safe Abortion Day
International Safe Abortion Day was established on September 28, 2011. This event was initiated by the International Women's Organization on Reproductive Rights. WHO notes that around 25 million underground abortions are performed every year, which cause great harm to women's health or even lead to fatal consequences. The ability to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is an undeniable reproductive right of every woman. That is why abortions should be legal in all countries around the world.
In 85-90% of cases of unwanted pregnancy, women choose artificial interruption, which, in medical institutions, is performed without complications or harm to health. The use of advanced technologies and special tools recommended by doctors, counseling by specialists reduces the risks of injuries and the development of infertility in women.
International Right to Know Day
International Right to Know Day was established on September 28, 2002 in Bulgaria at a conference of public organizations specializing in the protection of freedom of information. The holiday is celebrated annually on the same day. In 2015, UNESCO confirmed it. Ukraine is one of the founding countries of the International Right to Know Day.
Usually on September 28, public organizations promote the idea of the right to free access to knowledge and any public information. In 2013, the film 'Open Access' dedicated to the International Right to Know Day was shown at the Kiev cinema 'Kinopanorama'.

Which church holiday is celebrated on September 28
September 28 in the church calendar is the Day of the Memory of the Venerable Chariton the Confessor. Chariton the Confessor lived in the 4th century in Iconium (now the Turkish city of Konya). At that Time, the Roman Emperor Aurelian persecuted Christians. Chariton fell under the persecution as well.
The martyrdom of the martyr Thecla, his fellow countrywoman who died a martyr's death for the faith, served as an example to the bishop. Chariton decided to do the same, but Emperor Aurelian was killed, and the new ruler ordered to release Chariton. Thus, the saint decided to dedicate his life to God and set out for Jerusalem.
On the way, he was attacked by robbers, tied up, and left with them in a cave. Chariton waited for death, but a snake crawled into the cave and poisoned the wine, which the robbers drank and died afterwards. The venerable decided to stay and live in the cave, over time he gained followers, and later the Franciscan Lavra was founded - very famous in Palestine.
Saint Chariton left it to be alone and went to the desert. There he founded the Jericho Lavra in the caves of the Forty Days Mountain and later moved to a new place where he created the Sukkoth Lavra. Not far from it, in a cave, the Venerable Chariton the Confessor spent the rest of his life, but he went to die in his first abode - the Franciscan Lavra. He was buried in a church built at the site of the same cave of the robbers.
