The situation with British tourists in Ibiza

According to The Sun: The families of two British women who were injured in a hit-and-run while on holiday in Ibiza have been informed that they may remain in hospital for weeks.

26-year-old mother of three, Ebony Cordingley, and her 27-year-old friend Lauren Holmes were rushed to different hospitals following the incident.

Ebony's sister, Shannon, who stayed in the UK to care for her young children, reported that their father Richard Coombs is flying to Ibiza.

The women were told that an operation for a compound fracture of the knee would have to be postponed due to a “high risk” of infection.

The women from Bradford, West Yorkshire, were struck by a Toyota Corolla around 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

The police have not stated whether the driver has been arrested.

Ebony's mother, Diana Gray, in an update for the family said: “She has suffered serious injuries. She has six broken ribs on the left side and multiple fractures in both legs. She needs to have surgery, but due to the high risk of infection, it cannot be done at this moment. It looks like she will have to stay here for weeks. That's all we know at this moment.”

“They are doing MRIs to check for bleeding in the brain, which they do every day.”

A campaign on GoFundMe, created for Ebony, has already raised about £6000 of the targeted £6500.

The campaign for Lauren, whose family reported that the bill for her return home could be around £32000, has raised over £5500 of the targeted £8000.

Ebony said: “What was supposed to be a happy holiday in Ibiza has turned into a tragic ordeal. Our beloved sister Ebony was hit by a taxi in the early hours of Tuesday, August 26, and now she is in serious condition in intensive care. This sudden accident has turned our lives upside down, and we are going through a terrible time.”

Lauren's mother, Bernice Ramsden, is also flying to Ibiza to support her daughter.

Lauren is currently at the main government hospital Can Misses, while Ebony is at Our Lady of the Rosary Polyclinic.

Shannon reported that she believes the women were crossing the road when they were struck.

She said: “They had not been drinking, were not leaving clubs, they were simply walking home.”

The Civil Guard previously reported: “Two British women were taken to hospital in serious condition. They were pedestrians struck by a 24-year-old Spaniard driving a Toyota Corolla. The incident occurred at 1:50 a.m. on the road El-600 between Ibiza and San Antonio.”
