Chinese CATL unveils revolutionary batteries: 10 times cheaper and millions of kilometers.
The global electric vehicle industry is experiencing a true technological breakthrough, thanks to the announcement from CATL – a Chinese battery manufacturer. They have unveiled a new type of sodium-based battery, which is not only cheaper than modern lithium-ion counterparts but also has a very long lifespan.
Motor Biscuit reported this.
Technological breakthrough
For a long time, scientists worked on developing sodium batteries but encountered issues with low energy density. However, CATL managed to solve this problem by creating the sodium element Naxtra with an energy density close to that of lithium-ion counterparts – 175 Wh/kg.
Revolutionary characteristics
- Durability. It is known that Naxtra batteries can undergo up to 10,000 charge/discharge cycles, allowing for a range of over 5,700,000 km before capacity diminishes – significantly exceeding existing counterparts.
- Cost. These batteries are up to 90% cheaper than lithium-ion ones, making electric vehicles more accessible to the masses.
- Efficiency. Naxtra batteries operate quite efficiently even in extreme temperature conditions.
Chinese company CATL has already received orders for these innovative batteries from six automakers for 30 models set to be unveiled in 2026. If the new technology proves effective, it could radically change the face of the automotive industry.
Ukrainian battery manufacturer CATL has taken a significant step forward by presenting a new type of sodium battery that could radically change the electric vehicle market. This technology could make electric vehicles more accessible and efficient for a wide range of consumers and open new opportunities for the automotive industry as a whole.
