Electric Vehicles are More Durable than Diesels: Results of a Large-scale Study.
'Our research showed that the average lifespan of an electric vehicle is 18.4 years, which is slightly longer than that of diesel cars (16.8 years), but slightly shorter than that of petrol vehicles (18.7 years),' said researchers from the University of Birmingham.
During the study, it was found that electric vehicles travel on average up to 200,000 km, while diesel cars can cover 257,000 km. At the same time, electric vehicles break down less frequently - the risk of major malfunctions is twice as low as that of petrol cars, and six times lower than that of diesels.
Despite this, scientists emphasize that electric vehicles are still not an ideal choice for everyone. Their limited range, long charging times, and lack of infrastructure make them less practical in emergency situations. Therefore, for urban trips, it is better to use public transport or bicycles.
The research concluded that electric vehicles have a longer lifespan compared to diesel cars, but shorter than petrol ones. Although electric vehicles cover fewer kilometers, their reliability is evident in that they break down less often and require less maintenance than vehicles with diesel or petrol engines. Nevertheless, electric vehicles still face challenges and limitations that can complicate their use for some types of journeys.
