Dairy products in Ukraine are getting more expensive again: how much prices will rise.
According to ТСН: In Ukraine, dairy products, including milk, butter, and fermented dairy products, remain some of the most expensive goods in the consumer basket. Over the past year, prices for these products have increased by approximately 15–25%.
Reasons for Price Increase
An economist claims that the price increase in January is quite predictable, especially regarding butter and processed products. The main factors contributing to the rising costs include:
- increased feed costs for livestock;
- rising costs of logistics and fuel;
- high energy prices;
- the need to purchase generators and fuel due to periodic power outages to preserve dairy products.
Milk Prices in Stores
Currently, the average price of a package of milk with 2.6% fat content is 56.98 UAH. However, prices vary significantly across different chains:
- Silpo — 33.99 UAH for 900 ml;
- Novus — 37.79 UAH;
- Fora — 38.90 UAH;
- Aushan — 39.40 UAH;
- ATB — 39.60 UAH (1.5% fat);
- Varus — 41.30 UAH;
- Metro — 41.90 UAH;
- MegaMarket — 46.60 UAH (1.6% fat).
An expert notes that while promotional offers can sometimes be found, they will not be able to fully compensate for the overall inflationary pressure faced by Ukrainian consumers.
Recall that we previously wrote about a dairy product that is not beneficial for your health, yet it is found in nearly all refrigerators.
The situation in the dairy market indicates not only inflation but also changes in Ukraine's agro-industrial sector. High prices for milk and other dairy products may encourage consumers to seek alternative sources, while producers may seek ways to reduce costs to maintain competitiveness. This could lead to gradual changes in the market affecting the assortment and quality of products.
