Copenhagen Airport Halts Operations Due to Drones: Dozens of Flights Redirected.

The airport was closed after the detection of two to four 'large' drones, a police spokesperson reported. No information has yet been provided on when normal airport operations will resume, as an investigation is ongoing.
“The police are dealing with this issue. Until more information is available, the airspace is closed,” said a representative from local media.
Flights due to land in Copenhagen were forced to change routes or wait, resulting in delays for thousands of passengers. At least 35 flights were redirected to neighboring airports, such as Malmö, Billund, Aarhus, and Gothenburg.
“[The airport] is currently closed for departures and arrivals,” stated the police on social media.
Emergency services also spotted helicopters over the airport. Two individuals were detained in Oslo shortly after the drones appeared, but no connections between the incidents have been established yet.
Flight delays caused frustration among passengers. Mikael Belstrup, one of them, shared:
“We were told that Copenhagen Airport was closed due to drones and that staff knew nothing.”
This is not the first incident for Copenhagen Airport: earlier, in January, the airspace was also closed due to the sighting of drones, which lasted nearly two hours.
Such incidents highlight growing concerns in Europe regarding drone activity near critical infrastructure, including airports, military bases, and power stations.

The drone situation in Copenhagen underscores the need for ensuring airspace security as a top priority. Authorities and security services must find effective solutions to prevent such incidents in the future. At the same time, it is important for passengers to be prepared for potential delays and schedule changes. Read also
