Massive Assault on Ukraine

According to UATV: On July 2, Russia launched a large-scale, combined attack on Ukraine using both drones and missiles. In the aftermath, investigators discovered approximately 35,000 foreign components embedded in the Russian weaponry—despite the ongoing international sanctions regime.

Primary Target and Key Findings

The assault was primarily directed at Kyiv. Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the Ukrainian President’s special envoy for sanctions, stated that

“these are mostly dual-use or even exclusively civilian-grade products.”
This finding underscores that, even under heavy sanctions, Russia’s defense industry continues to secure essential components from abroad. Vlasiuk emphasized that
“as long as the Russian defense industry can source thousands of critical components overseas, it will keep producing missiles and drones.”

Among the manufacturers whose parts were identified in the Russian drones and missiles are:

  • Texas Instruments
  • Analog Devices
  • Intel
  • AMD
  • STMicroelectronics
  • Infineon
  • NXP
  • Murata
  • Bosch
  • Toshiba
  • Raspberry

This evidence highlights that, despite global restrictions, Russia still manages to acquire the technology necessary to sustain its military operations.

The incident exposes the limitations of current international sanctions, which have not fully prevented aggressor states from accessing critical technologies. The presence of foreign components in Russian military systems demonstrates the defense industry’s ability to adapt and find new suppliers—complicating global efforts to curb military technology proliferation. It also raises urgent questions about the effectiveness of sanctions and how they might be strengthened in the future.
