According to The Sun: Many retail stores are closing before the end of the year, giving shoppers the chance to get discounts on holiday purchases.

Among the chains closing their stores are well-known brands like Poundland, Claire’s, and The Original Factory Shop.

This comes amid a decrease in foot traffic and rising costs of doing business.

Closure of Poundland Stores

Poundland has launched sales in nine of its stores that are closing. Five other branches have closed in the past week.

Three stores that were set to close have been saved: in Porthcawl, Livingston, and Musselburgh. These locations began sales before their closures but have now reopened.

Stores in Andover, Blackpool, and Sidcup will hold sales with discounts of up to 40% before their closures on different dates: October 22, 25, and November 14.

Closure of New Look Stores

The New Look store in The Potteries Centre in Stoke-on-Trent is closing on October 14. Management at the centre expressed surprise at this closure, although shoppers noticed sales earlier.

A New Look store in Harrow Town Centre closed on September 17, and the branch in The Britannia Shopping Centre in Leicestershire will close on December 9.

Closure of Scope Stores

Scope has confirmed the closure of two of its branches in Gillingham Twydall Green and Stamford Hill on October 18, bringing the total number of closures to 58.

Closure of Claire's Stores

The popular chain Claire’s Accessories is planning to close 145 stores, despite a deal that saved the brand. The closures will happen in the coming weeks, with sales offering 20% discounts in those stores.

Closure of The Original Factory Shop Stores

The Original Factory Shop is closing its store in Inverness on October 12, with sales of up to 30% off. The store in Fort William is also conducting a sale with discounts of up to 70%.

Closure of Cardzone Stores

Cardzone has started an 'everything must go' sale ahead of the closure of one of its stores in Blackpool. Items are being sold at a 20% discount until the closure, which is likely to happen at the end of the year or early next year.

THE PAINS OF THE RETAIL SECTOR IN 2025

The UK Retail Association predicts that increased employer contributions will cost the retail sector £2.3 billion.

Research has shown that more than half of companies plan to raise prices at the beginning of April.

Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of CRR, noted: 'The outlook for 2025 looks grim.'

The retail sector is facing significant difficulties due to changing demand and rising costs. The pandemic, economic instability, and competition in online sales are pushing many brands to close stores. This is driven by the need to adapt to a new market environment that is becoming increasingly hostile to traditional retail models. Store closures will not only affect consumers but will also impact the economy as a whole, particularly employment in this sector.
