According to Novyny.live: A study by Circana's Connected Intelligence division reveals that a significant number of U.S. consumers are showing little interest in artificial intelligence (AI) features on their devices, primarily due to privacy worries and the prospect of extra costs. While 86% of U.S. adults are aware of AI capabilities on their devices, 35% of them express low or no interest in using these technologies.
Key Reasons for AI Hesitation
Privacy concerns are the leading factor, cited by 59% of respondents. Furthermore, 43% are unwilling to pay more for AI-enhanced services. Other deterrents include a belief that current device functions are sufficient and a perception that the technology is overly complex:
- 15% of respondents find AI difficult to understand.
Despite these reservations, 65% of those familiar with AI show interest in its integration into their devices. Interest is particularly high among younger adults, with 82% of those aged 18-24 expressing enthusiasm. The rapid integration of AI into medical devices is noted as a trend that could shift public perception. This indicates that while certain barriers exist, engagement with AI remains strong among informed and younger demographics.
These findings highlight the critical need for technology developers to address consumer apprehensions. As younger generations demonstrate greater openness to AI, manufacturers have an opportunity to tailor products to their expectations and needs. Understanding the factors that hinder AI adoption can help companies refine their strategies and messaging to alleviate user concerns and build greater trust in emerging technologies.
