US-Russia Negotiations Fail: When to Expect New Peace Initiatives.
According to ТСН: The negotiations on the American "peace plan" may become constructive no earlier than mid-January.
Executive Director of the North Eurasia Transformation Institute Volodymyr Horbach spoke about this on the Espresso TV channel.
"Someone from the Americans will definitely go to Moscow, and the conversation will take place at the diplomatic level. This will be one episode of a long process, where there are no guarantees of successful completion,"Horbach explained.
He also noted that the current stage of negotiations could escalate due to leaks of information about informal contacts between US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Russian officials.
"I have an intuitive expectation that this round of negotiations will be disrupted — not least because of leaks about the informal conversations of the Americans, namely Witkoff and his Russian counterparts,"the expert mentioned.
Horbach also believes that the publication of recordings of Witkoff's and Ushakov's negotiations will have negative consequences for the US.
"The leak of tapes will temporarily delay trust. There will be scandals in American politics — the press, congressmen will all be dissatisfied with the White House and will demand Witkoff's removal from work. Whether they will succeed in this is unknown, but a forced pause will occur,"he emphasized.
The expert also expressed the opinion that the next more productive round of negotiations could take place only after a few months.
"A somewhat productive and constructive round of negotiations, I think, may not happen until mid-January,"Horbach concluded.
It was previously reported that Trump's peace efforts collapsed due to rigid demands from the Kremlin and Ukraine's steadfastness, while European allies caution about the risky strategy of the US.
It was also noted that the Russian side had no intention from the very beginning to fulfill the 28-point plan it itself provided to the US as a possible basis for negotiations.
In the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts, it is important to understand that despite numerous challenges intensified by information leaks, attempts to find a compromise are still underway. Mid-January will be a key moment for the possible resumption of the negotiating process, although with relatively limited prospects due to a loss of trust. This situation will require new strategies and approaches from both sides to achieve some stability in relations.
