Co-op raises the price of lunch sets: how much will lunch cost now

According to The Sun: Co-op supermarkets have decided to increase the price of their lunch set after three years of stability. Now, for club members, the cost will be £3.75, and for non-members - £4.10, instead of the previous £3.50 and £4 respectively.

This decision was made as a result of inflationary pressure, although premium lunches remain at £5.50. "Our popular lunch set offers great value, with over 300 products to choose from, allowing customers to save a few pounds compared to buying products separately," said a Co-op representative.

The Co-op set, like its competitors, includes a main dish, a side, and a drink. The price increase for lunches occurs amidst consumer protests against rising costs. For example, in August, Tesco raised the price of its lunch set from £3.60 to £3.85, and the premium set from £5.50 to £5.80 for Clubcard customers and to £6 for others.

Two months ago, Sainsbury's also increased the price of the lunch set from £3.75 to £3.95, which caused dissatisfaction among workers and customers.

Consumer expert Martin James noted: "There is a limit when buying becomes too expensive. The lunch set has supported millions of people trying to save, but when the price reaches about £4, it will no longer be a good deal."

He also emphasized that the price increase of the sets may lead customers to forgo one of the components of the set, such as a drink or a snack, to save money.

Consumer experts are concerned about rising prices, as many people rely on lunch sets for savings. Given the current economic situation and inflation, this decision of supermarkets could lead to a decline in sales. Consumers trying to save may find that such sets will become unappealing at the new prices.
