Monkeys to Watch Out For

According to The Sun: When I was planning my trip to Gibraltar, I received countless warnings about the danger of the local monkeys. 'Be careful of these monkeys!' – warned everyone who learned about my journey.

These monkeys are known for their obsession with tourists, so I decided to see how true that is. Gibraltar is famous for its cable cars, but due to strong winds, we went on foot.

The monkeys have inhabited Gibraltar since the British began their occupation in 1704, and it is believed they arrived here as far back as the 8th century from Morocco.

Inherent Dangers

“I believe that the main problem is protecting monkeys from tourists,” said Mark Pizarro, the veterinarian responsible for their population in Gibraltar.

One woman trying to take a selfie with a monkey became a victim of an attack. Despite numerous signs prohibiting feeding or touching these animals, some tourists remain careless.

Even if you are careful, monkeys can jump on your head if they wish. In my case, one of them did, but fortunately, it did not cause any harm.

Although these little creatures seem cute, it’s important to remember that they can be dangerous if they feel threatened or want to snatch food.

Conclusions about Monkeys

Visitors, like me, who decide to see these amazing monkeys should leave their personal belongings in hotel rooms. Despite their mischievous appearance, they can cause serious trouble.

“Interacting with the monkeys is illegal, and it is stated on all signs in the nature reserve,” Mark concluded.

Watching these monkeys, I was convinced that they remain one of the most attractive sights for visitors to Gibraltar.

So be careful! It’s better to leave your personal belongings at home and enjoy observing these amazing creatures from a safe distance.
