Combat Experience on the Ground
The battery commander, call sign 'Pastor,' aged 58, joined the military in 2022. He stresses the critical need for oversight during firing operations:
'This is the loader’s cabin—here, the crew member controls the shots, charges, and shells. He has a camera that allows him to monitor what’s happening inside the loading chamber.' — Pastor
The gunner, call sign 'Instructor,' 29, has been fighting since February 2022. He also shared his perspective:
'We received coordinates and were told to target them. We moved out with great enthusiasm, loaded the shells, precisely aimed the vehicle, lined up the sights, and fired a couple of rounds.' — Instructor
Pastor noted that his prior artillery knowledge eased the transition to new systems: 'My background helped a lot—when you truly understand artillery, mastering new rules and technologies becomes much simpler.' The soldiers emphasize that their youth and agility enable rapid mission execution:
- 'We’re young and fast, so we unpack, fire, pack up, and move out.' — Panama
Thanks to modern equipment and the professionalism of its troops, the 5th Slobozhanska Brigade 'Scythian' continues to carry out its frontline duties effectively, showcasing high combat readiness and the ability to adapt to new challenges.
The use of the Zuzana 2 self-propelled howitzer allows Ukrainian forces to significantly boost their combat effectiveness. Combining advanced technology with the experience and skills of personnel enables quick, precise strikes against the enemy—a crucial advantage in the current war.
