Explosion on a train in Ukraine
According to The Sun: At least 30 people were injured as a result of a Russian drone attack on a Ukrainian passenger train.
Emergency services rushed to Shostka in the Sumy region following a brutal attack that caused a large fire in one of the carriages, tearing it apart.
Drone hits civilians
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned this horrific 'terrorist' attack, calling it a direct hit on civilians, as train staff and passengers were present at the time of the strike.
He noted that 30 people were injured in the attack, and services are already working to treat the victims.
According to him, the Kremlin was fully aware it was hitting civilians and emphasized that such 'terror' must not be allowed to go ignored.
The train was moving from Shostka - approximately 50 km from the Russian border - to Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, reported regional governor Oleg Grigorov.
No fatalities have been reported at this time.
Footage from the scene shows the train engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke billowing into the air.
“According to preliminary data, both railway workers and passengers were at the site at the moment of the strike,” Zelensky noted.
“The Russians could not have been unaware that they were hitting civilians. And this is terror that the world must not allow to be ignored.”
“Every day Russia takes lives. And only strength can make them stop.”
This attack comes amid an escalation of the Kremlin's aerial campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure.
Earlier this week, several Ukrainian regions experienced a massive drone and missile attack that extended to the capital Kyiv.
Ukrainian military reported that Russia launched 595 drones and 48 missiles overnight, of which their air defense systems managed to neutralize 568 drones and 43 missiles.
This attack on the train demonstrates how Russian forces continue to endanger civilians, raising significant concern within the international community. The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with constant attacks on infrastructure and civilians significantly impacting the lives of thousands.
The situation in the country remains extremely complex, and calls for international support are becoming increasingly urgent amid Ukraine's efforts to protect its territory and population from external aggression.
