A memorial for 40 Britons who died defending Ukraine has been opened in London.
According to The Sun: Today, a memorial was opened in London in honor of at least 40 British heroes who died defending Ukraine.
This memorial highlights the scale of the sacrifices made by Britain since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion.

New data on losses
The list of heroes significantly exceeds previous estimates, containing 37 names, as well as callsigns of three volunteers known only as Vulkan, Skauz, and Ghost.
Among those honored are Paul Urey, 45, who died from torture after capture, and medic Kateryna 'Kasia' Melnychuk, 26, the only known British woman to have died in the war.
This list was presented at the exhibition 'Steadfast Ukraine' at the Kyiv War Museum.
The exhibition is titled 'British Volunteers Who Died Defending Ukraine from Russian Aggression'.
Other heroes include Dan Burke, 36, Sem Nyu, 22, and Chris Garrett, 40. They were friends of the Sun newspaper and aided our reporters in dangerous missions on the front line.
Burke, a former paratrooper, founded a group called 'Dark Angels' and died because of his Australian friend who fled after that. Nyu went to Ukraine after his older brother Dan and died in August 2023. Garrett, a father of one, was a demining expert and died in an explosion in May.
Situation on the front
The exhibition also features personal belongings of hero Callum Tyndall-Draper, such as a smoking pipe and a sketchbook. Callum died defending a lookout point in November 2024.
According to Dmytro Haynetdinov, deputy head of the Ukraine War Museum, losses significantly exceed previous figures. One of the names on the list was mysteriously covered with a black ribbon.
It was noted that Jordan Chadwick, 31, had connections to units, and his body was found in combat zones. It later became known that he became a Russian prisoner.
“Our message is that every name on this list is a huge loss,” he said.
The exhibition opened from September 24 to 29 at the Vinyl Factory in London. It was supposed to be officially opened by General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, former commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and now ambassador to the UK.
This exhibition took place against the backdrop of news that Ukraine has likely been able to significantly shift the course of battles on the eastern front after a brutal counteroffensive.
General Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that his units reclaimed about 60 square miles since August, forcing Russian troops to abandon positions over another 70 square miles near Pokrovsk.
He also reported that Ukrainian forces continue their advance, and in the last 24 hours, the enemy lost 65 servicemen, of whom 43 were killed, as well as 11 pieces of equipment.
After the counteroffensive, Ukraine reported Russian losses, which were allegedly nearly 2700 troops, most of whom died, along with many tanks and armored vehicles.
These new data emerged against the backdrop of reports of brutal attacks by Russian troops, which led to civilian casualties—two women aged 40 and 79 years and a 77-year-old man.
It was also stated in Kyiv that three 'Butcher of Bucha' had been eliminated in response to drone attacks that witnessed mass murders in 2022.
This new phase coincided with a meeting between President Zelensky and Donald Trump in New York during the UN General Assembly. Trump advised NATO countries to 'shoot down' Russian planes when breaching airspace but avoided promising automatic U.S. support in the event of a Russian response.
At a press conference, the president emphasized that NATO members 'must not hesitate' in responding to Russian attacks.
The opening of the memorial in London was a significant event reminding of the costs borne by Britain in the war for Ukraine's freedom. This tribute to heroes shows how deeply the war has affected relations between Ukraine and Western countries. Meanwhile, the situation on the front remains tense, and news of military successes of the Ukrainian armed forces continues to shape the strategic context for the ongoing conflict. Read also
