Drone Strike Hits Passenger Train at Sumy Railway Station.
Attack on Sumy Railway Station
According to UATV: On June 10, 2023, Russian forces targeted the railway station area in Sumy using unmanned aerial vehicles. During the assault, a Shahed-type drone was shot down above the station building. The debris then fell onto passenger train No. 143, which operates on the Sumy-to-Rakhiv route.
The wreckage ignited the roof of the train's last car. However, initial reports indicate that neither passengers nor crew members sustained injuries. Despite the incident, the train departed from the station along its scheduled route.
Security Concerns Amid Ongoing Conflict
This event highlights the continued military hostilities in Ukraine and the use of drone technology in the conflict. The downing of the drone, which led to a fire, underscores the risks faced by civilian infrastructure—such as railway transport—during armed confrontations.
The incident also emphasizes the critical need for passenger safety and emergency response preparedness in such volatile situations.
