Drone Attacks by Russian Forces
According to Espreso.tv: A crew member aboard a Panama-flagged vessel was killed, and two other sailors were wounded—one critically—during a series of drone strikes on June 18. The attacks also targeted a ship flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, leaving three crew members with minor injuries. These events unfolded as multiple regions across Ukraine came under fire that same day.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a child lost their life in the strikes, while casualties were also reported in Kharkiv. Oleksii Kuleba offered his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, stating:
“The world cannot become accustomed to civilian sailors being targets of Russian weapons.” - Oleksii Kuleba
International Concern Grows
The international community is increasingly alarmed by the threat to civilians in conflict zones. These attacks highlight the escalating danger faced by civilian seafarers and non-combatants amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Global reactions could reshape perceptions of safety in conflict areas, as such incidents raise serious questions about adherence to international humanitarian law. These events may also spur new diplomatic efforts aimed at protecting civilians during armed hostilities.
