Toyota unveils DIY assembly car: what we know about the new product

According to Korrespondent.net: At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Toyota presented a unique concept - the IMV Origin SUV, which was left unassembled. According to the manufacturer, part of the work is to be carried out by the owner himself, as the vehicle is designed for remote regions of Africa, where issues with spare parts and qualified service often arise.

This is an all-wheel-drive utility vehicle with a single-section cabin without doors and windows, as well as an open cargo platform. Approximately 70% of the structure will be manufactured at the factory in Japan, after which the vehicle will be delivered to customers in the form of a DIY assembly kit.

Tool for the user

As noted by Lance Scott from the European design studio of Toyota in France, the model is created as 'a tool that empowers the user': it can be assembled on-site using standard tools and adjusted to meet any needs.

The IMV Origin can be adapted to a pickup, van, cargo platform, or even a minibus. According to Toyota President Tsuneharu Sato, the company deliberately left the vehicle 'unfinished' so that each owner could make it 'their own':

'It is precisely because of its incompleteness that it can become a vehicle created for you, as everyone has their own needs in work and daily life,' Sato noted.

Specifications and future

The specifications of the new Toyota product have not yet been revealed. Given the design, the IMV Origin likely resembles a compact car and may be equipped with a gasoline engine.

Recall that it was previously reported that Toyota officially confirmed the development of a new V8 engine.

The emergence of the IMV Origin opens new prospects for owners in remote areas, providing them with a tool to create a unique vehicle that considers local needs. This approach can significantly improve mobility and access to services in areas where traditional vehicles may not have adequate solutions.

Additionally, the development of new technologies in the model, particularly the potential V8 engine, reflects Toyota's commitment to remaining a leader in manufacturing cars that meet modern consumer demands.
