Euro banknotes update - how the EU currency will change.
In 2026, the design of the euro, the main currency of the European Union, will undergo changes. This will be the first update in 23 years. News.LIVE explains the main innovations in the design of the euro.
What changes await the design of the euro
According to a report by KosovaPress, the European Central Bank will update the design of the euro for the first time in over 20 years. The reason for the changes is that more and more Europeans are using digital tools for payments. Thus, the use of cash is gradually decreasing.
The updated euro banknotes will feature images of birds, rivers, waterfalls, European cultural figures, and other symbols, instead of traditional architectural structures. In addition, the banknotes will receive new security features, such as a 'satellite hologram' which can be seen in the right corner of the banknote.
The new banknotes will also be larger in size, and the 100 and 200 euro notes will be slightly smaller than the 50 euro note.
Moreover, at the beginning of 2026, another country will switch to payments in euros. It is also worth finding out if there is a one-thousand-euro banknote.
The update of the euro design in 2026 includes new images and security features on the banknotes, as well as changes in the sizes of the notes. This is related to the growing use of digital forms of payments in the modern world.
