Kim Jong Un banned the word hamburger: which other words are under prohibition.
According to The Sun: The despot Kim Jong Un banned the word "hamburger" due to its Western origin.
Among the banned words are also "karaoke" and "ice cream".
Guides who meet Russian and Chinese tourists at the domestic resort of Wonsan have been ordered to avoid English terms popular in the West and neighboring South Korea.
Approximately 20-30 guides undergo strict training organized by officials from the Human Resources Department of the Workers' Party of Korea in Kangwon Province.
Daily NK reports: "Listeners receive detailed instructions on serving and entertaining tourists and must memorize slogans and phrases.
"The goal is to teach tourism workers to consciously use North Korean vocabulary, avoiding South Korean expressions and foreign borrowings.
"Listeners must say dajin-gogi gyeopppang (double bread with minced meat) instead of hamburger and eseukimo (Eskimo) instead of ice cream.
"And karaoke machines, which are popular in South Korea, must be called "screen accompaniment machines."
After completing the course, listeners will take an exam.
The source noted: "Only those who are fully prepared will remain in the program."
AFPThis initiative reflects cases of strict control over language and culture in North Korea. The ban on popular words associated with Western culture emphasizes the authorities' desire to avoid external influence and maintain national identity. Such measures highlight not only the political but also the ideological isolation of the country.
It is worth noting that such courses for guides emphasize the importance of promoting North Korean culture among tourists visiting the country and confirm the central authorities' control over all aspects of citizens' lives.
