Odesites on Business During War: Who Took the Risk and What They Expect.
The desire to gather startup capital and the ability to start one's own business is present in almost everyone. Yet, during a difficult time for the country, many put their dreams on hold. Would you dare to open a business in the conditions of an all-out war? Journalists from Novyny.LIVE asked Odesites if they would take the risk and start their own business today.
Business in Wartime
The decision to open a business now seems questionable. War significantly affects feelings of safety and economic viability. However, entrepreneurship is also about taxes, jobs, and contributing to the future. This opinion was expressed by Tatyana: 'Most likely no, we understand what is happening in the country now. Perhaps this has held me back a bit. However, I think it's a personal decision for everyone. Business is still an investment, a development of taxpayers, and it is also the development of our country.'
Some respondents openly express doubts about starting a business during wartime. Others are ready to take risks. Olena notes: 'I don’t know, most likely not right now. I think we should wait for the war to end. However, if others wish to open a business, I fully support such initiatives. War is war, as they say, but life goes on. Let's hope for the best. Therefore, we need to do something in this life. For the better.'
What Business to Open
Some confidently assert that business should be developed now, even in difficult times. For example, Tatyana is ready to open a cafe or a restaurant: 'Yes, of course, I would start a business if I had the opportunity. A cafe or a restaurant, because we need to develop our country even in such a difficult time. Why postpone it until after the war?'
Another respondent is ready to try but has no concrete plans. It is essential that the business is close to her heart. Anna emphasizes: 'Of course, I would do it. Maybe I would open a studio, maybe a store. I haven't thought about it seriously yet. I believe this is a personal opinion for everyone and the responsibility of each individual. If we listen to each other, please keep your advice to yourself.'
Capital for Business
Ludmila openly admits that she currently sees no sense in trying to start a business during wartime. She expresses respect for those who still take risks and open businesses. 'No, I believe there is no sense in it right now. Those who are currently opening businesses and working are heroes and great people. I don’t know where they get the money to afford it,' says Ludmila.
War hinders initiatives but does not kill the entrepreneurial spirit. Some Ukrainians are already ready to take risks, while others wait for better times. However, everyone agrees on one thing: the country must move forward, even under the sound of sirens.
Ukrainian journalists asked Odesites if they would take the risk to open a business in the conditions of an all-out war. Opinions were divided: some believe it is not the best time for this, while others emphasize the importance of developing entrepreneurship even in difficult times. Nonetheless, everyone agrees that the country must move forward even during military actions.
