Verkhovna Rada Commissioner spoke about the status of Ukrainians returned from captivity
The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, announced that about 40% of Ukrainians who were returned from captivity were considered missing under special circumstances. This status was not confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He stated this during a meeting with relatives of prisoners of war and the missing.
According to Lubinets, about three hundred relatives of Ukrainian prisoners and missing persons were present at the meeting. They asked their questions, which were answered by representatives of the Coordination Headquarters for Handling Prisoners of War, the Unified Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Pension Fund, the Department of Social Security of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the National Police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Office of the Prosecutor General, and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Relatives were interested in the specifics of searching for the missing. He emphasized that for us there is no legal difference between them and those who have the status of prisoners of war
Lubinets also reported on communication with the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights regarding the exchange of prisoners and the involvement of representatives of third countries in the process. The details of these negotiations were disclosed to relatives during the meeting.
