BMW unveils the new X5: a hydrogen SUV and revolutionary interior.
According to Korrespondent.net: BMW is preparing to launch the fifth generation of its popular SUV X5, which will be the most diverse in the model’s history, reports Motor1. In addition to the usual gasoline and diesel engines, customers will be able to choose a plug-in hybrid, a fully electric version, and a hydrogen fuel car developed in collaboration with Toyota. An electric model with a gasoline generator is also being considered.
Details of the new generation
The first serial hydrogen X5 is expected in 2028; however, the premiere of the new generation (codename G65) will take place next year. The published photos of the camouflaged vehicle show a new 'face' in the style of the Neue Klasse with a vertical radiator grille in retro design, similar to that of the new iX3. Integrated door handles and a divided rear luggage compartment lid are also noticeable.

Interior and technologies
Inside, the X5 will feature a completely revamped interior with a 17.9-inch central display and a Panoramic Vision system that projects information across the entire width of the windshield. The traditional iDrive rotary knob and most physical buttons will disappear – control, including climate settings, will be performed via a touchscreen. BMW plans to implement such a concept across all its models.
Market expectations
The new X5 will hit the market in 2026, along with the next generation of the 3 Series Sedan. It will become one of the first cars to represent the 'DNA of the Neue Klasse'. Whether it will retain the three-row configuration is still unknown, as this niche will likely be taken up by the larger X7, the second generation of which will appear in 2027 and will also receive an electric version.
Globally, the hydrogen X5 will likely not become mainstream: due to the underdeveloped infrastructure for refueling, it will be sold only in select regions. According to H2Stations, by the end of 2024, there will be only about 1160 hydrogen refueling stations worldwide.
The new technologies that BMW implements reflect the overall trend of the automotive industry towards eco-friendliness and innovation. Welcome the new models – they promise to open up new possibilities for drivers and enthusiasts.
