Fighting for Kostiantynivka Has Already Begun: Russia Aims to Encircle the Pokrovsk Agglomeration.
Current Situation in Donetsk Region
According to UATV: As of March 14, 2026, active combat operations are ongoing in Donetsk Region, particularly around Kostiantynivka and Lyman. The Russian army's strategic objective is to encircle the agglomeration, including Pokrovsk, and to reach the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk line. Spokesperson Serhiy Bratchuk stated that under the current circumstances, countermeasures are necessary for the Ukrainian Armed Forces on front sectors where the Russian military is not actively engaged.
Bratchuk noted that 'it is quite possible that in terms of the number of combat engagements, it may even sometimes exceed activity on the Pokrovsk direction.' He emphasized that 'in terms of priority, in military-political terms, nothing has changed for the Russians,' indicating a persistent threat from Russian forces. The spokesperson also stressed the importance of counterattack strikes by the Defense Forces, noting that 'this tool is being used very actively today.'
He reported that 'battles for Kostiantynivka as an urban agglomeration are already beginning,' signaling an escalation of the conflict in this region. Bratchuk also stated that 'in the near future, enemy activity will certainly not decrease, and it will quite likely increase,' underscoring the severity of the situation. Given the number of Russian troops attacking in Donetsk Region, the spokesperson noted that the actions of the Defense Forces 'deserve more than just praise.'
Outlook for the Situation
The situation in Donetsk Region remains tense, and further intensification of hostilities is expected.
At present, Donetsk Region is becoming one of the hottest flashpoints of the conflict, requiring the Ukrainian Armed Forces to adapt their tactics and strategies in response to the growing threat. Given the escalation of combat operations, support for the population and adequate resource provision for the military are critical, which could influence the further development of the situation not only in Donetsk Region but across the entire country.
