According to UATV: On July 19, 2023, Russia launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine using missiles and drones, targeting cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. The attacks struck civilian infrastructure, resulting in deaths and injuries. In total, more than 40 missiles and 120 attack drones were deployed, causing widespread destruction. This escalation highlights the ongoing danger to Ukrainian civilians amid the prolonged conflict.

In the Kyiv region, two people were wounded by the shelling. In Kharkiv, three people died when a postal terminal was hit. Oleh Syniehubov reported:

“Another strike on a postal terminal, civilian infrastructure. Three 'Parcel' drone-missiles were used. Three people are dead.”

The Zaporizhzhia region also came under fire, with Russian forces attacking passenger trains twice, potentially causing additional casualties.

Attack Details and Official Reactions

In the Kherson region, one man was killed and four others were wounded after residential buildings were hit. In Chernihiv region, six people sustained injuries in the attacks. Meanwhile, in the Sumy district, Russian forces targeted a rehabilitation center, burning the building to the ground.

Adding to the grim toll, on July 16, a 16-year-old boy died in Odesa after a strike on an amusement park. These events have sparked outrage among Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized:

“Defense against ballistic threats is our constant and top priority. Interceptors are needed every day.”

Andrii Sybiha called for decisive action: “We urge adequate and firm measures. Crushing pressure must be applied to Moscow to end this terror.”

These attacks are part of growing regional tensions, with Ukraine continuing to hold its ground. Since early July, Ukrainian drones have destroyed 83 energy nodes in Crimea and Donbas, and over two weeks of operations, Ukrainian forces have taken out 75% of the Kerch ferry crossing’s capacity. These actions underscore Ukraine’s military response to Russian aggression.

The massive strikes highlight the relentless threat to Ukraine’s civilian population and the ongoing military escalation. Ukraine must not only respond to aggression but also seek ways to strengthen its defenses, a top priority for its leadership.
