Bulgaria Opts Out of Coalition Backing Ukraine

According to Espreso.tv: Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has announced his country's refusal to join the coalition supporting Ukraine, instead calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict. This statement came during the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, held on July 13 in Paris. Bulgaria did not send a representative to the gathering, where a declaration establishing the Anti-Ballistic Coalition was signed.

Meeting Participants

The following nations signed the declaration and took part in the session:

  • Ukraine
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that London would assist the European Union in financing a €90 billion loan for Ukraine's needs.

“We are not participating in a coalition that insists on continuing financial and military aid to Ukraine. The solution to this conflict lies not in prolonging it through military means, but in a strong diplomatic mission that will finally put an end to escalation.”

During the meeting, French President Emmanuel Macron also announced an agreement between Ukraine and France regarding a license to produce Aster missiles for the SAMP/T system.

Bulgaria's stance on involvement in the coalition actively supporting Ukraine thus remains unchanged, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic efforts in resolving the conflict.

Bulgaria's decision not to join the coalition highlights the complexity of international support for Ukraine, as not all European countries are prepared to provide military and financial assistance. Radev's position may reflect a broader national policy aimed at maintaining neutrality in the conflict. It also underscores the critical role of diplomacy in seeking a peaceful resolution, which could influence future negotiations and international relations in the region.
