Martial Law and Mobilization Extended in Ukraine

According to Espreso.tv: Ukrainian lawmakers have approved presidential bills extending both martial law and general mobilization. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed Draft Laws No. 15197 and No. 15198 on April 30, authorizing a 90-day extension of these measures, now set to expire on May 4, 2026. These extensions keep in place the legal framework for military conscription and emergency powers amid the ongoing war.

In the parliamentary vote, 313 deputies supported the continuation of martial law, while 311 voted to extend mobilization. It is worth recalling that President Zelenskyy originally submitted these bills to the Verkhovna Rada on July 13, seeking a 90-day renewal of both measures.

Maintaining National Defense Capabilities

The decision to prolong martial law and mobilization underscores the protracted nature of the military conflict and the urgent need to sustain Ukraine's defensive capacity. These steps are critical for safeguarding national security and stability in the face of ongoing aggression. They also reaffirm the state’s commitment to protecting its citizens and supporting its armed forces during this challenging period.
