A New 'Anti-Ballistic Coalition' Takes Shape

According to UATV: On July 13, 2023, a coalition of 37 nations was launched in Paris, bringing together 25 heads of state and government, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The summit focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses and developing new missile interception systems. This initiative marks a significant step in coordinating international efforts to counter missile threats in the region.

For the first time, Moldova and North Macedonia joined the so-called 'coalition of the willing' within this alliance. Participants stressed the urgency of supporting Ukraine amid Russian aggression.

“Ukraine especially needs to reinforce its anti-ballistic defenses. That is precisely where our main contribution is directed,” said French President Emmanuel Macron.

Additionally, coalition partners committed €70 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Zelenskyy highlighted the danger posed by ballistic missiles in the war, stating:

“You all see the threat that ballistic weapons now pose in Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

Bolstering Ukraine and New Initiatives

As part of its defense preparations, Ukraine has completed work on the Freyja anti-ballistic missile, which could become operational later this year. France also announced plans to deliver Rafale fighter jets to Ukraine, with an expected deployment in 2028–2029.

Summit attendees underscored that supporting Ukraine is vital not only for Ukrainian freedom but for the security of all Europe.

“We stand with you because this is not just about the freedom of Ukraine and Ukrainians, but about the freedom of the entire continent,” stated Friedrich Merz.

Thus, the 'anti-ballistic coalition' represents a crucial advancement in international backing for Ukraine and in countering threats stemming from Russia’s military actions.

The formation of this coalition reflects a global response to Russian aggression and underscores the importance of collective security in Europe. Support for Ukraine from 37 nations—including substantial financial commitments and military hardware—signals growing international concern over regional stability. This initiative also opens new avenues for cooperation among countries seeking to enhance their defensive capabilities in the face of modern threats.
