Boris Johnson Urges UK to Deploy Troops to Ukraine for Peacekeeping Role.
Call for Military Support to Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: In a BBC interview, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called for the urgent deployment of British troops to Ukraine to perform peacekeeping functions in secure regions. He stressed the critical importance of supporting Ukraine in the face of Russia's ongoing war against the country. Johnson's proposal comes as Western nations continue to debate the extent of direct military involvement in the conflict.
Johnson, who has visited Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities multiple times since the war began, stated that the question of deploying ground forces is now pertinent.
"If we are going to have a plan for the introduction of ground forces, I may be slightly ahead of what is currently being discussed in the UK," said Boris Johnson. He further emphasized that readiness for such a step could be realized within a ceasefire framework:
"Yes. I believe we are ready to do this within the bounds of a ceasefire regime," added Boris Johnson.
Johnson framed this as a fundamental political issue concerning Ukraine's freedom. "It's about the fact that this is a political question. It concerns whether Ukraine is a free country or not," he noted. He has been a vocal supporter of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's stance since August 2022, and his first visit to Odesa in September 2025 underscores his active engagement in international policy regarding Ukraine.
Public Reaction to Johnson's Proposal
Johnson's calls to send British troops to Ukraine have sparked widespread public debate and resonance, given the persistently tense situation in the region.
His statements come amid growing international support for Ukraine and discussions about potential new steps in response to Russian aggression. The introduction of British troops on a peacekeeping mission could serve as a significant signal to other nations, demonstrating solidarity with Ukraine and reinforcing the West's commitment to its independence and territorial integrity. However, the proposal also raises concerns about potential escalation of the conflict and its impact on European security.
