Fighting Drones: Why Target Tracking is More Important than Detection

According to Novyny.live: Daniel Novak, co-founder of Kuhaken, emphasizes the importance of stable target tracking in combating drones. He highlights the need for precise 3D tracking and control, which is critically important for effective operations in the face of modern aerial threats.

As Novak points out, in drone counteraction (C-UAS), the failure rarely begins with the detection of the target. In his opinion, the problem often arises just seconds after the first alert about the threat. Thus, real work begins at that moment. Effective target tracking, which includes 3D-fixation, ensures stable positioning in three dimensions: location, altitude, and direction of movement. This allows for rapid decision-making in response to the threat.

Daniel Novak also stresses the challenges posed by the urban environment and critical infrastructure objects. These factors impose limitations on the operation of drone countermeasures. Aggressive interference in the radio spectrum can disrupt civilian systems, further complicating the situation. In this regard, Novak proposes changing the approach to system assessment:

'Instead of asking 'how far can it (the system) see?' it is better to ask 'what does the system do after the first alert?' - Daniel Novak

Therefore, the importance of target tracking in the fight against drones is becoming increasingly evident, as it allows for effective responses to threats and ensures safety in the face of modern challenges.

Growing Threats and the Importance of Technological Readiness

In the face of growing threats from drones, the effectiveness of countermeasure systems is becoming more and more relevant for both public and private entities. Increasing technological readiness in this field can significantly impact security, especially in urban environments where risks are highest.

Thus, a strategic approach to target tracking can become a key element in ensuring protection from new forms of threats faced by modern society.
