A tragic incident involving a British father of two

According to The Sun: A British father of two, 37-year-old David Hayes, became a quadriplegic after breaking his spine during an accident on vacation.

The incident occurred in Ibiza, where David spent nearly three weeks in a coma following the accident.

The father from Torquay, Devon, organized the trip after his wife Ellie was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing radiation therapy.

During the vacation, David accidentally inhaled seawater, leading to pneumonia and lung collapse. He was connected to a ventilator within hours of the tragedy.

David sustained injuries to his cervical spine and spinal cord damage. Doctors noted that he has no chance of regaining movement below the chest.

“David, 42, was diagnosed as a quadriplegic, meaning he is in a state of permanent paralysis from the chest down and cannot use his limbs. Doctors and surgeons noted that there is no chance of regaining any movement.”

Meanwhile, his family hopes for a miracle due to intensive rehabilitation and modern medical achievements. David is expected to be transferred to the Spinal Treatment Center in Salisbury, where he will receive specialized care.

The fundraising foundation reported that David is making “excellent progress” in his recovery. He can already breathe independently for extended intervals without the ventilator.

“This is great news, as injuries in the spinal cord area C3-C5 can disrupt diaphragm control, but he continues to experience weakened respiratory function.”

However, while David undergoes rehabilitation, Ellie is still fighting breast cancer treatment.

The family is trying to adapt to new realities, caring for the children and visiting David in the hospital.

The foundation added: “David will need 24-hour medical care and rehabilitation for the rest of his life, along with significant adaptations in his home, which will be partially funded by the government.”

“We are raising funds to provide David with the necessary conditions for a quality life, access to quality healthcare, therapy, and modern assistance devices.”

“Every contribution will be greatly appreciated,” they added.

This tragic story highlights how vital support and help are in difficult times. The family faces the situation with courage and hope for the best, trying to cope with the numerous challenges that have come their way. Joining the charity campaign can be an important step in helping David and his family through these tough times.
