British woman deported from Thailand over social benefits scandal: What will happen to her son?.
According to The Sun: The British mother who was imprisoned in a Thai jail returned home without her four-year-old son.
Alice Matthews, 32, who tried to become an influencer and gave tips on how to cheat social benefits, was deported from Thailand after overstaying her visa.
Pixel8000 Pixel8000Alice spent four months behind bars with her son Cairo after gaining notoriety through her controversial TikTok videos. The woman boasted about her 'perfect life', for which she received £2300 a month in fraudulent benefits from the UK.
After her visa was canceled on February 21, she and Cairo ended up in prison in Pattaya in March.
Without the possibility to pay for a ticket home, Alice was incarcerated under terrible conditions along with her son.
Fearing that social services might take Cairo away, she initially refused to return to the UK. She has since returned, but her son remains in Thailand with a relative.
'Leaving Cairo was one of the hardest decisions of my life,' she told the Daily Mail.
'I don't want him to be taken into care in the UK – he has the right to a safe childhood,' she added.
Alice and Cairo lived in horrendous conditions in a mother-child detention center in Bangkok, where they had to spend over 20 hours a day in an overcrowded cell with other prisoners. They survived on coarse rice and rat meat.
'The conditions were terrible,' she claims.
'There were hundreds of women and children crammed together in filthy rooms, forced to sleep on the concrete floor without mattresses,' Alice recalled.
'The toilets were overcrowded, diseases spread uncontrollably,' she added.

Alice noted that her son 'has seen things no child should see,' including fights and violence. Many inmates suffered from mental illnesses.
'Approximately 30% of the inmates were mentally ill,' she says.
The woman also emphasized that she gave food to other children because they were hungry.
'I even breastfed another hungry child because I had no other way to save it,' she recalled.

Alice stated that her son needs medical treatment due to several illnesses.
After returning to the UK, Alice remained in hiding due to threats made against her.
'I'm afraid to leave the house because these people are looking for me and threatening me,' she said.
'They constantly spread false allegations that I abused my son,' she added.
Alice, who hails from Bamford Bridge, Lancashire, says she feels 'downcast' because of the actions of people.
'Both my son and I are suffering,' she said.
'I just want to bring him back to the UK and live a normal life with him,' she added.
Alice now claims that her videos about benefits fraud were a 'joke' to gain more followers.
'The truth is, I've never received any benefits in the UK,' she stressed.
'I can understand why people were angry and upset about it.'
She admitted that her videos drew negative reactions before her imprisonment.
Following her release from prison and deportation, Alice spoke about her time in detention, especially how she had to 'fight to protect her son.'

In one of her videos, she says:
'Imagine being locked up in a filthy prison with your three-year-old child.'
'There was no bed, no toys, just a concrete floor where my three-year-old boy cried while trying to fall asleep at night,' she added.
Alice also recounted how they lived among rats and cockroaches and that some disabled children were left behind.
'If you don't have money when you get in there, it's going to be hard for you,' she added, noting that one has to pay up to £300 even for floor sleeping spots.
Alice described how 80-100 people were crammed into a 'dirty cell', of which 30-35 were 'mentally ill.'

The comments on her videos were mixed. One user noted:
'You actually pay 500 Baht (£11.53) for a day of waste; you did not pay the fine and went through this with your son. Incredible.'
Others were more supportive:
'What happened to both of you was so unfair.'
The Thai authorities took action against her after reports concerning Cairo's welfare.
Alice rejected these allegations and claimed that her visa was canceled due to persecution by people in the UK.
Despite all the difficulties, Alice is adamantly refusing to return to the UK with Cairo.
'I will not lose Cairo, and I will never return to the UK,' she said.
The woman told the Daily Mail that she plans to 'go to another country' and is considering Cambodia or Turkey.

Alice Matthews's situation draws attention to issues of women's and children's rights as well as the difficult detention conditions in foreign prisons. Her experiences in Pattaya and Bangkok highlight serious problems faced by many mothers and children in similar situations.
At the same time, her story questions the ethics of benefits in the context of modern social media. The societal reaction to her videos and her incarceration reflects larger social and moral issues that need to be addressed. Alice seems caught in a conflict between the desire to protect her son and the struggle for her reputation.
