What Car? Unveils 2024 Vehicle Dependability Rankings

According to Novyny.live: British automotive publication What Car? has released its latest reliability index, based on a survey of vehicle owners about technical faults experienced over the past two years. The rankings were compiled from questionnaires completed by real car owners, providing authentic insights into their real-world ownership experiences.

Topping the charts with a perfect reliability score of 100% are the Hyundai i10 and Toyota GR Yaris. Joining them at the summit of dependability are several other standout models:

  • Toyota Aygo X
  • Kia Picanto
  • BMW 4 Series
  • Volkswagen Polo
  • Mazda CX-5
  • Volkswagen T-Cross
  • BMW 3 Series
  • Toyota GR86

These vehicles achieved outstanding survey results, outperforming many competitors in the process.

Bottom of the Reliability List

At the opposite end of the spectrum, the Nissan Juke recorded a critically low reliability index of just 55.2%. A significant 24% of Nissan Juke owners reported serious issues with the fuel system, battery, engine, and climate control. Only 30% of repairs for this model were covered under the factory warranty, highlighting substantial reliability shortcomings.

Also noteworthy is the Skoda Superb, which earned a reliability index of 81.4%. Some 40% of its owners experienced failures in multimedia systems, electrical components, and bodywork. Other models like the Jaguar F-Type scored 89.1%, while the MG HS achieved 87.9%. Meanwhile, 19% of owners of gasoline-powered variants reported faults, 21% of conventional hybrid owners flagged repairs, 28% of electric vehicle owners experienced breakdowns, and 29% of diesel car owners cited problems.

The main underperformers in the ranking include:

  • Nissan Juke
  • Skoda Superb
  • Jaguar F-Type
  • MG HS
  • Porsche Boxster
  • Volvo XC40
  • Cupra Ateca
  • Volkswagen Golf
  • Mazda 3
  • Ford Puma

These findings underscore that vehicle reliability remains a critical factor for consumers, and owner surveys can play a key role in helping buyers choose the right model.

With these results in hand, consumers can make more informed car-buying decisions by leveraging the experiences of other owners. This also highlights how crucial dependability is for ensuring safety and keeping repair costs low.

A high reliability rating can be a decisive factor when purchasing a new car, while a low score may signal potential ownership headaches down the road.
