Ceasefire Conditions Revealed by Budanov: When Ukraine Aims to End the War's Active Phase.
Hopes for Peace Talks
According to Novyny.live: Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has shared his expectations regarding a potential halt to hostilities in Ukraine. He confirmed the Ukrainian government’s goal of concluding the hot phase of the war by the winter of 2026. This statement was delivered at the international forum 'Security Architecture,' held on June 1.
According to Budanov, Ukrainian authorities are focused on maximizing efforts to achieve this objective.
“I fully agree, this is the President’s directive to try, as soon as possible, to try to end this war” - Kyrylo Budanov. However, despite these optimistic remarks, the negotiation process between the parties has slowed considerably. Ukraine’s top diplomat, Andrii Sybiha, confirmed that talks are not progressing as desired.
Challenges in Negotiations
Additionally, Vladimir Putin has expressed willingness to sit down for negotiations with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but only on Russian soil. This condition could further complicate the path to a peaceful resolution. Budanov also stressed Ukraine’s crucial role in these talks, stating:
“Stop downplaying our role, as if someone has to give us something, tell us something, or hand us a gift” - Kyrylo Budanov.
Thus, the Ukrainian government continues to seek ways to end the conflict despite the existing obstacles in negotiations. At the same time, the current dynamics suggest that achieving peace will require substantial effort from all sides.
Kyrylo Budanov’s remarks underscore the Ukrainian leadership’s desire for a peaceful resolution that aligns with the country’s national interests. Yet, the complexity of the negotiation process and the conditions set by Russia may hinder progress toward this goal. The role of international partners in supporting Ukraine remains critical, as lasting peace demands not only Ukraine’s efforts but also a constructive approach from other participants in the talks.
